German fashion design school Esmod Berlin collaborates with the concept-retailer Manufactum specialised on sustainable products. During summer term twelve students from the master-program Sustainability in Fashion will elaborate an activewear-collection for Manufactum. The designs from all students will be presented in different locations such as the stores till the Museum of Applied Arts. After the presentation a board will decide which design will be developed and included in the Manufactum collection.
Manufactum offers about 8500 objects with the main focus on sustainability, not only because of used techniques and materials but also being timeless and often becoming a classic item, beyond trends.
Sustainability is currently a buzz word and still many don’t really know how to explain it exactly. Often it is used in connection with sustainable energies and raw materials but actually it’s everything what will influence our future and quality of life.
Many global players are already using sustainability also as part of their marketing strategy.
H&M shows the company’s activities regarding sustainability on their website, from biological cotton to recycling and applying social and environmental standards.
London department store Selfridges is no longer selling water in plastic bottles but opening a new bar concept that will offer free filtered water, plus a line-up of water infusions.
At the occasion of the Helsinki Design Week various events with sustainable tips are also offered, from a recycle your jeans workshop to the climate street concept providing the morning coffee with solar energy.
There are no limits to act sustainable. Sustainability is the future. Otherwise we won’t have one.
